Wollongong has a fascinating history which includes thousands of years of Aboriginal occupation, as well as evidence of post-European settlement dating from 1815/1816. Wollongong Central Library’s Local Studies section has a wide range of resources available to anyone – including researchers – interested in understanding our history. This valuable collection of materials includes books, maps, manuscripts, reports and other material focused on the local area.
Some of this content is also available online on the libraries website. This includes Illawarra Images, a collection of photographs of people, places, buildings and events covering the last two centuries of local history. Illawarra Images is made up of the photographic collections of both Wollongong City Library and the Illawarra Historical Society. For more information check out the libraries website.
