Safeguarding our city

Fire safety officer showing children how to put out fires with hoses

The community’s safety and wellbeing is an issue of major importance, and we work with state agencies and community organisations on many projects to help enhance the safety of residents and visitors to Wollongong.

In a number of these areas Council is not the lead agency involved, but we provide a supporting role and, in many cases, act as a contact point to provide information.

We work closely with the Roads and Traffic Authority on road safety issues, and with police and related agencies on broader matters of community safety.

Our health inspectors work to ensure operators comply with regulations in areas such as food safety, cleanliness of air conditioning cooling towers and skin penetration industries. Council also has a role, working with other emergency services, in bushfire prevention and management.
