Social planning

Social Planning is about finding out and planning for the needs and aspirations of people and communities. Social Planning assist Council in making decisions and developing services that are responsive to community needs by undertaking community engagement, analysing demographic data and social trends, and conducting social research.

Our social planning team provide a range of social data based on people (demographics), place (locality) and issues (concerns, needs and asserts).

All Local Governments in NSW are required to prepare a social plan every five years. We recently adopted the Wollongong City Council Social Plan 2007-11 after three years of community engagement and development. The plan is available in three volumes:

  • Volume 1: Target Group Plan
  • Voume 2: Issues Plan
  • Volume 3: Demographic Profile.

A copy of the plan is available on the right hand side of this page.

Social Plan Annual Status Report 2007-08
Council is committed to reporting on the implementation of the Social Plan on an annual basis. So far we’ve commenced approximately 80% of strategies in the Social Plan. We’ve developed a report highlighting some of the actions delivered from the Plan during 2007-08, and detailed our directions for the year ahead. You can access this information by clicking the Social Plan Annual Status Report 2007-08 on the right.
