Refurbishment of North Beach Bathers Pavilion

Draft concept designs for the conservation and refurbishment of the North Beach Bathers Pavilion were  on public exhibition from 9 June until 6 July 2009. The concept designs have been prepared by Architects Conybeare Morrison International Pty Ltd.

Following the public exhibition period, Council reviewed the submissions received.  Some specific issues that were raised by the community were addressed by the consultant architect and incorporated into the design.

Council lodged an Integrated Development Application (IDA application number DA-2009/883) for the Bathers Pavilion & North Beach  Precient on Friday 24 July. The exhibition period for this  IDA will be announced shortly.

Please note this  IDA  will be referred to the NSW Heritage Council for approval

Residents can track the progress  of  DA2009/883 via Council's website.

Council wishes to return this iconic building to its former glory whilst incorporating modern and accessible facilities to ensure it can be used by visitors to North Beach into the future. The pavilion, which was built in 1938, has deteriorated due to the harsh marine environment. The draft concept plan looks at conservation of the building as its first priority then seeks to provide new amenities including toilets, showers and change rooms.  The plans also introduce space for a café/kiosk which will provide a source of funding to ensure the long term preservation of this important heritage building.
