Crown Street Mall

Update
Council at its April 2009 meeting voted to keep the Wollongong Mall closed to traffic and to refurbish ithe Mall. This decision followed extensive community consultation in November 2008. The public were given three options to choose from with the majority of submission received selecting Option A to keep the Mall closed to traffic. Council also voted to move the bus interchange from Keira to Burelli Street.

Background:
The Mall was opened in 1986 and has remained virtually unchanged for 22 years. The success and time have taken their toll on the Mall. It is showing its age, with current structures looking worn and tired. Council wanted to ensure that the Mall is a vibrant and attractive place to shop, do business, share community events and access services.

The community were asked to make submissions on three options for the future of Crown Street Mall.

Outlined below are the three proposed options for upgrading the Crown Street Mall, each of which takes into account previous community feedback indicating a preference for the Mall to retain its ‘pedestrian friendly’ character. Please read more about the options by clicking on the links on the left.

Council wishes to thank those who provided their feedback on the three options.
