Woonona Railway Level Crossing

Railway crossing - Park Road, Woonona

Wollongong City Council in partnership with the RTA and RailCorp commenced work on upgrading the railway crossing at Park Road, Woonona in September 2008.

The upgrade involved the railway level crossing on Park Road being closed to vehicles between Kioloa Road and Railway Parade from Saturday 14 February until 2 March 2009.

Traffic detours were in place with Railway Parade closed north of Dorrigo Avenue to all traffic except local residents. Park Road between Railway Parade and Kulgoa Road closed to all traffic except local residents. Traffic heading north along Railway Parade was diverted into Dorrigo Avenue. Traffic heading south was diverted along Beach Drive. Click on the traffic detour map to the right.

Motorists were advised that to drive from one side of the railway line to the other the nearest crossings were in the north: Campbell Street, via Thompson Street and in the South, Bellambi Lane, via York and Mitchell Streets.

To assist detoured traffic flow for the duration of the road closure, No Stopping signs replaced existing parking signs on the inside lane of The Circle at East Woonona shops.  No other parking in the area was affected.

An FAQ sheet was prepared to provide information on the road and level crossing closures. A copy of the FAQ appears on the right under related documents.
