About Place Management

Wollongong City Council voted on 26 August 2013 to adopt Place Management principles in its approach to work in particular suburbs and localities within the Wollongong Local Government Area. Council has designated a number of its senior managers to assume responsibility for coordination across the range of business units of Council, to achieve service planning, service delivery and planned strategic outcomes.

Which Suburbs / Localities / Sites will be included in the Place Management program?

  • Suburbs identified in Town & Village Planning program, sites designated for major capital projects, sites identified as strategic priorities in Wollongong 2028 and “hot spots” (areas of community concern / action) that emerge
  • Seek to have approximately 10 “places” being actioned at any given time
  • The list of designated “places” should evolve over time, so that some move off the list as planning, strategies and/or service delivery reach maturity

How will Place Management Function in Wollongong LGA?

  • Senior Managers with delegation for Place Management will have an overview of all activities, services and projects occurring within their delegated “place” – they will coordinate sharing of information and integration of projects where necessary and will provide support to the Divisions responsible for delivery of outcomes, to remove blockages that might arise in the achievement of Wollongong 2028 objectives relevant to their “place”
  • Stakeholder identification, engagement, liaison and relationship management remains the responsibility of the Division delivering each project, program, plan or service within the “place” – the role of the Senior Manager with delegation for Place Management is to direct stakeholder enquiries to the responsible Division and, if necessary, facilitate communication
  •  Customer requests or complaints should continue to be lodged via Pathway
