Inner City Parking Strategy
Inner city parking strategy - a solution to the city's parking problem
Content: Inner city parking strategy | Consultation
With figures suggesting an 80 percent increase in peak hour traffic by 2026, Wollongong City Council is proposing new solutions to address parking issues in the city centre.
Studies have revealed that while the community feels there is not enough parking in Wollongong, one of the main problems in the city centre is motorists who park their cars in short term timed spaces all day.
To reduce motorists occupying short term spaces all day, Council is considering the introduction of parking metres to make it easier to identify motorists overstaying in parking spots and move them on.
It is proposed metered parking will be installed at 850 of the 1463 on-street parking spaces located in the core of the city centre and will cost $2 for up to two hours.
More details about the strategy can be found in the Discussion Paper on the right.
The Wollongong City Centre access and movement strategy document on the right was reported to Council on 5 December 2005 and adopted by Council resolution (Minute No. 375 that: 2. The Wollongong City Centre Access and Movement Strategy be endorsed to provide the strategic direction for more detail planning).
