Book to Baton II poster
​Recognising that Wollongong City Libraries are 'more than just books', The Friends present this orchestral concert to celebrate over 70 years of library services to the community of Wollongong.
 
Many great films have been based on popular books. From those films, the Sydney Orchestra, under the direction of Dr Steve Watson, will present music from their soundtracks.
 
This concert will build on the first 'Book to Baton' with a program that includes music from Pirates of the Caribbean, Dr Zhivago, West Side Story, Somewhere in Time, Wonder Woman, E.T, The Magnificent Seven, and much more.

Growing and Caring for Your Roses



Together with the Ribbonwood Centre and the Rose Society of NSW we are hosting a series of presentations designed for the home gardener to help them choose, plant and care for their own roses. As the Ribbonwood Peace Garden is being re-established, these presentations will utilise the renewal of this garden as a demonstration of the steps taken in establishing a thriving rose garden.

Literary Lunch with Meg Keneally​ ​


​The Friends of Wollongong City Library present a literary lunch with Mega Keneally. Meg is co-author with father, Tom Keneally, of the Monsarrat books. Fled, an epic adventure based on the incredible real life story of Mary Bryant, is her first solo novel.

In Fled, infamous convict runaway, Mary Bryant, is reimagined as Jenny Trelawney. When famine ravages the colony where Jenny is serving her sentence she discovers a resilience born of desperation that leads her to fight not only for her own life, but for the lives of her family.

Renew Wollongong is a Renew Australia initiative funded by Wollongong City Council. Renew Wollongong will work with creative business enterprises and property owners in the Crown Street Mall Precinct to enhance vibrancy and introduce new ideas and experiences.


​Renew Wollongong's project manager, Alice Henchion, will discuss marketing strategies that can help you market your small business on a shoestring budget.

Author Talk: Joshua Lobb

​​Creative writing lecturer Joshua Lobb has written award winning short stories for many years. His first novel, “The Flight of Birds”, launched at Gleebooks in March.

A starkly beautiful meditation on loss and isolation, change and transformation, this novel is told in twelve stories, each based on an encounter between the human and animal worlds.

Join us to hear Joshua talk about what has inspired him, his writing process and what this book means to him.

Copies will be available for purchase on the day and there will be opportunities for book signing​.
