Friends of the Wollongong City Library
Aims of the Friends
- To foster an interest in books
- To serve as a link between the library and the community
- To promote an appreciation and awareness of the library's services and its collections
- To sponsor special community events and literary activities designed to stimulate community interest in reading and awareness of the role of the library in the community
- To provide support for the library and its collections through practical assistance, for example, fund raising, the encouragement of gifts, sponsorships and endorsements
- To advocate and make representations for improvements in funding arrangements for public library services
- To foster links with organisations with similar interests and objectives
Our program
There are three main areas of the Friends of the Library program to suit a variety of interests and levels of involvement. These are conducted at various venues, including the Branch libraries.
1. Social/Educational
- Author visits
- Book launches
- Visits to cultural institutions
- Literary lunches and dinners
- Promotion of children's and youth reading
- Special interest evenings
2. Fundraising for special projects
- Providing Friends of the Library book bags (proceeds go towards projects that enhance library services)
- Holding social/education events
3. Practical help for the library and its customers
- Assisting with library surveys
- Assisting at library special events
- Promoting the pleasures of reading
Membership information
Fees
- Individual $15
- Family $20
- Concession $10 (senior/pensioner/full-time student/unemployed)
Fees can be paid to the Cashier, Wollongong City Council, Burelli St, Wollongong or at any branch of the Library
