Interlibrary Loans

The Library provides an interlibrary loan service to library members for books or magazine articles not held in the Wollongong Library system. Customers are required to complete a request form which is available in the Reference Library or at any Branch of the Library. Conditions apply to the provision of this service. A fee applies for all interlibrary loans.

Before requesting an interlibrary loan please check the Wollongong City Library catalogue or ask a Librarian to make sure Wollongong Library does not already hold the item

How much will it cost?

Fees for this service are in accordance with the current Wollongong City Council Fees and Charges publication and the Australian Interlibrary Loan Resource Sharing Code.

The fee is payable when the item is supplied

How long will it take?

Delivery times vary.  Generally it is best to allow a 2 week delivery period for the item.  Wollongong City Library attempts to supply an item as quickly as possible but cannot guarantee delivery of an item requested within a specified time frame.

Will I be able to take the item home?

Generally, yes. Some libraries will only lend items on the condition they are used in the Library

How long can I keep the item?

The owning library determines the length of the loan.  Loan periods are not standard, but are generally for a 4 week period
 
Renewals may be possible if requested prior to the due date.  This will depend on the policy of the owning library and demand for the item.

What if I want a photocopy of a magazine article or other document?

Check that we don't already have what you want.  If you are unsure ask a Librarian to help you find what you want.

A copyright declaration must be signed before we process your request.  The usual fee for a photocopied article is $13.20.

What items can't I request on Interlibrary Loan?

Items available in the Wollongong City Library, including items on order, in processing, in transit or in the Reference Library, will not be requested from other libraries

Items less than 12 months old and in print fiction will not be requested from other libraries.  Patrons can submit a 'Suggestion for Purchase' as an alternative in these cases.
