Our Customer Service FAQs answer some of your frequently asked questions about Council services.

National Relay Service

Callers who are deaf or have a hearing or speech impairment can contact the National Relay Service (NRS) by calling 1800 555 677 then asking for Council’s Customer Service on (02) 4227 7111

Seniors and People with Disability Directory 

This directory [4.9 MB] includes services to help with people with accessibility needs, or carers seeking support services.  You can also request hard copies of the directory by calling (02) 4227 7111.

Disability Access Guide Brochure

The Disability Access Guide Brochure [1.7 MB] provides a summary of the services Council offers to promote equal access to our services and facilities. Available for download below, or call (02) 4227 7111 to request hardcopies of the brochure.

Council's Interpreter Service: AUSLAN interpreter

We provide onsite, face-to-face interpreting in more than 22 languages (including AUSLAN) for public, community and private sector agencies. For more information visit our Interpreter Service page.
Celebration of Ability Calendar
Each year we support the Celebration of Ability program of events to recognise the contributions of people with disability in our community.

Accessible Services and Facilities

​Wollongong-Shellharbour Community Transport Service

This service helps with transport for older people and people with disabilities. Visit the CTWS website for details.

Library Services

Wollongong Central Library provides access to a number helpful services and technologies for people with visual impairment and reading difficulties. For more information, visit the libraries website.

Amphibious Wheelchair

Available at three of our most popular beaches - Stanwell Park, Thirroul and Port Kembla. Access to the chairs is available seven days a week during the surf lifesaving season.

All-Abilities Playgrounds

Wollongong Botanic Garden, Towradgi Park and Thirroul Beach Reserve playgrounds. Features typically include: playmaze, dry creek bed with a water pump, customised spiderweb net,  watering can cubby house, timber boardwalk, observation tower, sandpit, swings, slides.

Liberty Swing at Stuart Park Playground

This swing can be accessed via an attached ramp. To use this, you will need a MLAK key or to contact Council on (02) 4227 7111. 

Travis-Adams Accessible Rainforest Walk.

An excellent network of paths for accessing most walks; accessible parking bays and toilets. Located at Wollongong Botanic Garden near the Murphys Avenue entrance. 

Accessible Public Swimming Pools

  • Wollongong Continental Pool includes a ramp and hoist (no lifeguard service)
  • Port Kembla Pool can be accessed via beach entry
  • Beaton Park Indoor Pool includes a hoist 
  • Corrimal and Dapto pools include a hoist.
Pools have dedicated accessible parking spaces, accessible toilets and easy access to changing rooms. For pool locations and hours of operations, see our Public Pools page.

Accessible Cabins

Windang, Corrimal and Bulli Beach tourist parks include several accessible cabins equipped with a range of features for use by people with a disability.

​NSW Companion Card

Council is part of the Companion Card program. This initiative helps make it easier for people with significant disability who require a carer to attend events and venues, by issuing a second ticket/entry for the carer free of charge. It applies to any ticketed events organised by Council, as well as our leisure centres and paid-entry pools. To find out more about the program, visit

National Disability Abuse and Neglect Hotline (Part of Job Access)

Anyone can call the Hotline to report cases of abuse or neglect including physical, sexual, psychological, legal and civil abuse, restraint and restrictive practices, or financial abuse. It can also include the withholding of care and support which exposes an individual to harm. For more information visit Job Access.
