Unwanted e-waste

If you have electronic waste stored in cupboards which you no longer have a use for or is broken, why not declutter?  Please consider how best to reuse or recycle any pre-loved items including phones, tablets or gaming devices…landfill is not the answer.

e-waste How can you recycle?
Computers and Televisions

Your local Community Recycling Centre (CRC) is located at Wollongong Waste and Resource Recovery Park at Kembla Grange.  It is free to drop off televisions and computers including printers, keyboards, scanners and computer peripheral.

Council’s CRC does not accept game consoles, video recorders or DVD players, but we have some tips on what you can do with these items.
Gaming devices Do a search on ‘what to do with my old play station or Xbox and options will present themselves. There is a strong market for pre-loved gaming devices so take the time to check out your options and cash in on gaming.
Other electronic items A whole host of electronic waste including electronic toys/games, DVD players, stereos, cameras, video cameras, iPods and more can be recycled through the ECOACTIV Product Recovery Program.  Download a list of participating Storage King stores today to receive your recycling pack.
Mobile phones If you have any old phones or phone batteries lying around, take them to one of our local libraries located at Wollongong, Warrawong, Unanderra, Thirroul, Helensburgh, Dapto and Corrimal.   They all have Mobile Muster receptacle boxes where you can hand in your phone and have the peace of mind knowing they will be recycled responsibly.
Apple products Have you heard about Apple GiveBack yet?  If you have any pre-loved Apple products you have the options of trading in your device or if not eligible for a trade in, they will recycle it for free.  They will provide advice on how to safely back up and wipe your data.  Contact an Apple Store to find out more.

By recycling you will assist in recovering the finite resources in these items and also ensure the nasty toxic elements are kept out of our landfill.

If you can’t make it to Kembla Grange, why not book a Household Clean-up Service which you are entitled to two each financial year.  www.wollongong.nsw.gov.au
