Wollongong, assemble! Be a Guardian of the Grassy Woodlands
Our grassy woodlands need protection from extinction. Will you step up?
Council is inviting residents to become Illawarra lowlands grassy woodlands superhero s at the Stream Hill Community Day. Held on Tuesday 14 April, locals will be imparted with expert wisdom to protect these threatened species.
There will be guided walks from local Landcare volunteers and hands-on activities such as weaving workshops, native bee education, cultural learning opportunities and creative environmental workshops.
Cement your pledge as a Guardian of the Grassy Woodlands by planting a tree and walk away empowered with a free native plant, seedling and sausage sizzle.
“We know our environment is calling on us to care for it and the Stream Hill Community Day is one way for us to answer that call,” Lord Mayor of Wollongong Councillor Tania Brown said.
“It’s a great opportunity to connect with your neighbours and to learn about lowlands grassy woodland and why it’s important that we support its survival in our own backyard.
“It’s a free family friendly event, so bring everyone along - the more the merrier. It’ll make a difference for your city and nurture a lifelong commitment to protect and restore our environment.”
The Guardians of the Grassy Woodlands project is led by the Illawarra Ecosystems and Threatened Species Team (Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water) and is delivered as part of the NSW Saving our Species program.
This event is supported by Landcare Illawarra and Wollongong City Council.
Bookings are essential via Humantix.
