Breathing new life into WIN Entertainment Precinct
There's certainly plenty of major projects on the horizon in 2026, and I’ll be continuing to knock on doors in Macquarie Street and in Canberra, highlighting opportunities to partner with government and deliver for our city and region.
Securing investment to upgrade the WIN Entertainment Centre and activate the wider precinct remains one of my key advocacy priorities.
The WEC, home of our Illawarra Hawks, is a key driver of our Visitor Economy. When the venue is full so are our restaurants and bars, with a boost to local accommodation as well.
Council has worked collaboratively with Venues NSW over a number of years on the Illawarra Sports and Entertainment Precinct project and I thank the NSW Government for committing funds to enable finalisation of a Master Plan and the development of a positive Business Case for the precinct.
Over the last 12 months I’ve met with a range of Ministers in the NSW Government to emphasise the importance of this project, including the potential to support and provide pathways for elite female participation in various codes.
I’ve advocated strongly for it to be prioritised and for funding to progress the project to planning approvals phase. It’s important we continue this momentum and I look forward to the Government’s response to our requests.
