Legacy works

Work to improve our roads and pathways for cyclists will continue now that the Championships are over.

There'll be future long-term upgrades, or legacy works, at a number of sites used for the event. We'll talk with the community and invite feedback about long-term works as these plans move forward.

Sites where legacy works will take place are shown with an L on the map above.

Keep an eye on the Our Wollongong website for opportunities to give feedback on future works.

Marine Drive re-alignment and bus layover changes

To create an exciting and competitive 2022 Road World Championships course that takes full advantage of Wollongong's spectacular foreshore, the event finish line was located on Marine Drive, just north of WIN Stadium. Road construction work was carried out by Wollongong City Council in this area to create a safe, straight section of road leading into the finish that met UCI regulations.

To accommodate these works and the event, the Transport for NSW bus layover was moved temporarily from Marine Drive near Lang Park to on-street locations within in the city CBD.

Council, Transport for NSW and other stakeholders are continuing to discuss options and possible long term solutions for the bus layover.
