The COVID-19 pandemic is an uncertain and challenging time for our community.
Below is some general information about our local area and how we're responding to COVID-19.
Council has plans in place to support the continued delivery of services to you during the pandemic. We also have a wide-ranging support package to help our residents and businesses survive the current and future impacts of COVID-19.
We are constantly reviewing our plans to make sure we are prepared for any situation. At times we may need to change, reduce or postpone services and events at short notice. If this happens, we will let you know.
We'll also continue working with NSW Health, Police and other government agencies to provide support where we can. This includes things like sharing government announcements, managing public areas, and making spaces available for pop-up testing clinics.

It is important to remember that the Wollongong area, often called the Wollongong Local Government Area (LGA), reaches from Helensburgh in the north to Windang and Yallah in the south. See the Wollongong LGA Map PDF, 655.39 KB for an overview of our area.
Advice from NSW Health applies to all of this Wollongong area unless otherwise specified.
Note that in some Public Health Orders, Wollongong has been included in the 'Greater Sydney' area. Please read NSW Health updates carefully to confirm which rules apply to Wollongong.
The Australian Government and NSW Health have a free COVID-19 vaccination program.
There are multiple places in the Wollongong area where you can get vaccinated, including the Illawarra Shoalhaven Mass Vaccination Centre and selected general practitioners and medical centres.

COVID-19 vaccines are free for everyone in Australia regardless of your Medicare or visa status.
If a vaccination provider charges for any costs associated with getting the COVID-19 vaccination (including booking fees), you can report them to the Commonwealth Department of Health by email or call the Provider Benefits Integrity Hotline on 1800 314 808 (9am to 5pm weekdays).
Proof of vaccination
In some situations, you may need to show proof of your COVID-19 vaccination. The NSW Health website explains the different ways you can show proof of vaccination.
If you have even the mildest COVID-19 symptoms, you should get tested as soon as possible.
Register a positive Rapid Antigen Test
If you tested positive using a Rapid Antigen Test you must register the positive test result on the Service NSW website or through the Service NSW App, as soon as possible after you get your result.

Used Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs)
Used Rapid Antigen Tests (RATs) are a type of medical waste and need to be disposed of carefully.
Please read the instructions that come with your RAT. They should explain how to properly dispose of a used test.
Some tests come with a plastic bag for disposal. If your kit doesn’t include a bag, you should place the used items from the test, including the swab, into a small plastic bag that can be sealed. This bag should be put into another bag that can be sealed and put in your red lid (general waste) bin.
Test kit materials are not recyclable.
Wash your hands carefully after completing the test and disposing of the test kit contents.

Please dispose of used face masks responsibly.
Single-use face masks should be put in your red lid (general waste) bin after use. If possible, put your mask in a sealed bag before placing it your bin to make sure others won’t touch it.
Most single-use masks contain soft plastics and cannot be recycled. They can also get caught in recycling equipment and be a hazard to waste workers.

The COVID-19 check-in card is an alternative check-in method for customers who don't have smart phones and / or those who are not comfortable using the Service NSW web form.
The COVID-19 check-in card is a hard-copy (printed) card with a unique QR code that contains your registered contact details.
When you enter a COVID Safe business, a staff member scans your card and your visit is electronically recorded. If the business device can't read your QR code, the staff member will enter your details manually into the online web form.
