Extra green waste collections this weekend
Wollongong City Council is continuing to offer free green waste collections this weekend at Whytes Gully, Wombarra and Beaton Park.
Residents can drop off their green garden organic waste at Whytes Gully this Friday 17 January from 7.30am to 4.30pm and Saturday and Sunday 18-19 January from 8am to 4pm.
The Jim Allen Oval Wombarra collection point will be operating Saturday 18 January from 7.30am to 11.30am. The Oval is located off Monash St, Wombarra.
The Beaton Park waste collection on Saturday 18 January will be open from 12 noon to 4pm. It will be held in the Snake Pit car park area with entry from Gipps St or Foley St, Gwynneville.
Council’s free collections in January have been successful so far with residents delivering approximately 100 tonnes of green waste to collection points in Helensburgh, Corrimal, Mt Kembla and Whytes Gully.
Wollongong City Lord Mayor Cr Gordon Bradbery AM said: “Now is a good time to clear your property and remove fallen leaves, twigs and debris. You can also help make your property safe by composting smaller leaves and branches.”
The RFS has excellent tips on preparing your home for bush fire on its website.
