Shark attack at Windang Beach
Friday 17 January 2020
Windang Beach is closed after a shark attack early this morning.
A 59-year-old man was surfing near the entrance to Lake Illawarra when he was bitten by a shark. He has been transported to hospital.
An off-duty Wollongong City Council lifeguard provided support to the emergency services.
The beach will remain closed for the remainder of the day and Lifeguards will monitor conditions and patrol the surf with jet skis.
In addition, Council’s contracted shark patrol helicopter service will also fly over the beach tomorrow before flags are permitted to go up.
