Accessible Viewing Area returns for Council’s New Year’s Eve and Australia Day events

Wednesday 21 December 2022

The popular Accessible Viewing Area is returning for Wollongong’s New Year’s Eve and Australia Day community events.

The accessible area is designed for members of our community who have accessibility requirements, creating an inclusive event and giving everyone an opportunity to come out and enjoy the events with their friends and family.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said that New Year’s Eve and Australia Day are two of the biggest community events on Wollongong’s calendar.

“Our goal, as Council, is to make Wollongong a city for everyone by making it easy for people of all abilities to enjoy community life. Everyone has a right to participate,” Cr Bradbery said.

“The Accessible Viewing Area provides uninterrupted views of the fireworks as well as access to accessible amenities. It’s one of the best seats in the house so to speak, and we’re pleased to be able to offer this service.

Accessible Viewing Area registrations are now open by using our online form.

Bookings are essential to secure a parking space in this area as there are very limited spots available. We will do our best to accommodate. Please take note of the following deadlines for vehicle bookings:

  • Bookings for parking spaces will be closed on Friday 23 December.
  • Registrations to use the drop off zone in the accessible area will be closed on Friday 30 December.

The New Year’s Eve Accessible Viewing Area is sponsored by the Cram Foundation.

Wollongong City Council’s New Year’s Eve is proudly supported by media sponsors i98FM and the Illawarra Mercury.
