Don’t forget! Next garden organics drop off is this weekend

Wednesday 7 December 2022

The last free garden organics drop off for the year is this Sunday 11 December at Ziems Park in Corrimal.

It’s all part of Wollongong City Council’s effort to support residents to reduce their bushfire risk by removing excess small branches, shrubs, fallen leaves, twigs and debris from their homes.

Council’s free garden organics drop off will be held from 7.30am-12 noon at Ziems Park (access from Short Street, Corrimal). You can also still put garden organics and household food waste in your green-lidded FOGO bin which is collected weekly.

“We’re expecting this next garden organics drop-off to be a busy one as there’s a lot of demand from our community for access to services like this. Be prepared you may have to wait a little while to be serviced,” Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“I’d also like to remind everyone that no food organic waste will be accepted. Only normal residential quantities of green waste will be accepted – for example trailer and carloads, not tip trucks or commercial vehicles.

“We will do our best to manage crowds and the queue will be stopped at 11.45am so that we can wrap up the event at 12. If you miss out, don’t worry, you can continue to put garden organic waste in your green-lidded FOGO bin which is collected weekly.

“We’re expecting this next garden organics drop-off to be a busy one as there’s a lot of demand from our community for access to services like this. Be prepared, you may have to wait a little while to unload.”

Residents are also asked to only bring tree branches up to 10cm diameter cut into roughly one-metre lengths to assist with the compactors’ capacity to deal with the waste. Proof of residency, for example a driver’s licence, is also required at the drop off points. We also ask that you remain in your vehicle unless untying your load.

The green organics collected at the events will be taken to Soilco for processing into organic compost.
