Helensburgh Toddlers’ Pool to receive upgrades

We know Helensburgh Toddlers’ Pool is a popular spot on a hot day and we’re focused on making some essential improvements that should see it reopen before Christmas.

In September we finished the first part of stage one works on the Helensburgh Toddlers’ Pool. Now we’re half-way through wrapping up the remaining works with the pool scheduled to re-open on Saturday 19 December 2020.

To meet the current NSW Department of Health Guidelines, we needed to separate the operation of the toddlers’ pool from the main pool so that both could operate independently of each other.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said the scheduled upgrades would ensure the long-term use of the Helensburgh pools for the local community through the summer months.

“At present, if an incident occurs in either pools, we have to shut down both to resolve the issue. This system isn’t ideal. By separating the operations of the pools, we can reduce the impact of shutdowns on pool goers.”

“Our pools are important public facilities that are well-loved by many of our community members. During summer, all of Council’s pools receive an increase in visitors. With this in mind, we’re aiming to finish works on the toddlers’ pool by Christmas.”

The scheduled works will include the installation of — a new cartridge filter, pumps and equipment servicing the toddlers’ pool; new pipework, fittings and fixtures; a separate 5,000 litre balance tank and solar heating controller with controls and sensors.

The engagement of a contractor for this project followed Council’s resolution in July 2020 to undertake a formal quotation process in accordance with Council’s procurement policies and procedures.

Want to use the main pool? The good news is that the Helensburgh Pool has been open since September and will not be interrupted by works on the Toddlers’ Pool.
