Santa letter delivery service available at your library

Wednesday 30 November 2022

Santa’s helpers at Wollongong City Libraries are collecting and delivering letters to the North Pole from now until 10 December!

If you’ve spent the year being nice, now’s the time to write your Christmas wish list (with your parent’s help) and drop it off at your favourite library. Our trusted librarians will safely deliver your letter to Santa ahead of the holidays.

If you’re looking for more ways to get ready for Christmas, we’re offering cookie decorating, gingerbread house making and Storytime activities for people of all ages. Get into the Christmas spirit by joining us for some festive fun.

Wollongong City Council Manager Library and Community Services, Jenny Thompson said that December is always an extra-special month at our libraries.

“We know that a lot of thought and effort goes into writing a Christmas letter to Santa and here at Wollongong City Libraries we take the responsibility of delivering them seriously,” Ms Thomson said.

“My suggestion for writing an excellent Christmas letter is to make sure you write your list as clearly as possible and include your name and address so Santa can reply. It’s a good idea to ask Mum or Dad or your carer to check your letter for you, and finally be sure to include a thank you!

“We’ll be collecting letters addressed to Santa at all of our libraries up until Saturday 10 December. So, you have plenty of time to think carefully about what you’d like to ask for Christmas.”

The City of Wollongong Giving Tree appeal is another way you can get into the Christmas spirit! On Saturday 3 December the annual Bikers Toy Run will bring Giving Tree appeal gifts on their convoy to drop-off at the Christmas tree in the Crown Street Mall.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM encouraged people to give the gift of Christmas to a family in need.

“We’re making one last call for Christmas presents for the City of Wollongong Giving Tree appeal. The Giving Tree is an annual city tradition that seeks to help those who are doing it tough during the holiday period,” Cr Bradbery said.

“Not everyone can afford to purchase presents, and this can cause a lot of stress on families. There’s something really special about this appeal and I’d like to thank everyone who has so far donated a gift. Your donation will go to a child or young person who would otherwise miss out on the joy of unwrapping a gift on Christmas morning.”

You can drop off your special gifts at the following locations by Sunday 4 December:

  • Wollongong City Council Admin Building, 41 Burelli Street Wollongong
  • Your local library – see the Wollongong City Libraries website for location details and opening hours
  • Dapto Mall Customer Service Desk, Moombara Street, Dapto
  • Corrimal Village Customer Service Desk, 270 Princes Highway, Corrimal
  • Warrawong Plaza Customer Service Desk, Corner King and Cowper Street, Warrawong
  • Wollongong Central Customer Service Desk, 200 Crown Street, Wollongong
  • South Coast Floor Coverings, 299 Keira Street Wollongong.

You can also donate towards the Giving Tree appeal online.
