Making Biking Easier at Lake Heights

Work has started this week on repairs to a damaged section of the Lake Heights foreshore cycleway.

The section of path along the lake foreshore, near Lake Heights Public School, was built about 30 years ago and has become uneven and badly cracked.

The reconstruction of the 315-metre stretch of pathway is expected to take about eight weeks to complete, provided we get good weather.

“Lake Illawarra is a beautiful backdrop to any outdoor activity and this cycleway is well-used by walkers, runners, cyclists and families with kids who need to burn off some energy,’’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“While I appreciate it can be an inconvenience to have a pathway closed for a little while, these improvements will make the path safer and easier to use.’’

A detour has been set up while the work is underway with pedestrians and cyclists to use Northcliffe Drive instead of the pathway between the Illawarra Yacht Club and the laneway that’s to the north of Lake Heights Public School.
