Our eight-lane athletics track is certified Class 2 by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF). That’s great news for athletes, because it means that any records set on the track will be formally recognised.
Located next to Beaton Park Leisure Centre, the Kerry McCann Athletics Track also has:
- Long jump and triple jump tracks
- High jump
- Pole vault track
- Four throwing circles including hammer and discus cages
- Steeple chase.
The 500 seat grandstand makes this a great venue for training and competition, or community events.

Kerryn McCann Athletics Track features an all-weather circuit track, plus an infield which can be used for various activities.
The infield is a natural grassed surface and may be closed at times due to wet ground conditions. When this happens, the circuit track will remain available for use, but no activity is allowed on the infield.

Kerry McCann (nee Hindmarsh) was born in Bulli and became recognised as one of Australia’s finest distance athletes. She was a proud Coledale resident and loving mother of three with her husband Greg.
Over her career, Kerryn represented Australia in the women’s marathon at Olympic Games in Atlanta (1996), Sydney (2000) and Athens (2004). She also competed at three Commonwealth Games, winning gold medals in 2002 and 2006.
Kerryn was a modest yet popular athlete, who could often be found training along Wollongong’s beaches, roads and bike tracks. She also worked to support numerous community fundraising activities.
Kerryn was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2007. Her depth of character and courage inspired many in our community, until her passing on 7 December 2008.
The Kerry McCann Athletics Track was named in her honour in 2009.
A plaque commemorating her achievements can also be found in St James Park in Kerryn’s home town of Coledale.
