Work Placements

If you're training for qualifications to become a fitness or swimming instructor, our Centres can support you to build your skills.

We offer work placements where you can work with a qualified mentor who'll guide you and provide feedback as you gain practical experience in helping to deliver our programs.

Pick an option below to learn more about our placement opportunities.

To be considered for a Learn to Swim instructor placement, you must:

  • Have completed the Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety training with Aust Swim, Royal Life or Swim Aust
  • Be able to attend the classes selected by the Learn to Swim Supervisor with your allocated mentor
  • Supply all documentation, tasks and assessment tools that relate to your training.

To be considered for a Les Mills instructor placement, you must:

  • Have completed the initial training module with Les Mills in chosen program
  • Provide all necessary Les Mills assessment tools / feedback forms required for completion.

Les Mills recommends that best practice is a minimum of 8 weeks shadowing / team teaching, but there is no minimum hours requirement.

We will be guided by the Les Mills coaching form to achieve the learning outcomes and help you gain confidence ready for final certification.

  • Placements are subject to a qualified instructor being available to act as mentor
  • Your participation in Centre activities must not interfere with the safe running of the class
  • You must hold public liability insurance or cover from your training provider
  • You must hold a current Volunteer Working With Children Check
  • If your application is supported, we'll contact you to discuss what you want to get from the placement, what's expected of you, and a suitable schedule and start date
  • You will need to do an induction and sign an agreement before starting the placement
  • Please note that training placements are unpaid positions.
