Val is a respected aged care and dementia advocate with lived experience as a carer, volunteer, and participant in the aged care system. After caring for her husband, she founded the Corrimal Dementia Carers Support Group and continues to lead it today.
She also organises the Annual Illawarra Dementia Forum at the Fraternity Club, Fairy Meadow. In recognition of her work with Dementia Australia, COTA, and OPAN, she was appointed to the Council of Elders in 2021. Val’s advocacy has earned her national recognition, including the Medal of the Order of Australia, and she remains a powerful voice for carers and older Australians.
