All about Citizen Science with Social Geographer Jen Quealy at Wollongong Library

When:
12 September 2025 04:00 pm - 05:00 pm

Discover how you can be part of real science, right here in the Illawarra.

Bring your friends and family (including the kids!) along as we welcome Social Geographer, Jen Quealy, and Lichenologist, Kacey Hutchinson, for an interactive session introducing Citizen Science.

Together, they’ll show how everyday people of all ages can help scientists by observing and recording the microscopic world of lichens using the free app, iNaturalist.

At this session you will:

  • Learn what Citizen Science is and how you can take part
  • Gain an understanding of why lichens matter to our environment
  • Get hands-on guidance for using the iNaturalist app to share your local discoveries.

This event launches both Jen and Kacey’s local lichen project (running until late October), and our new Citizen Science corners at Dapto, Thirroul and Wollongong Libraries. Our Citizen Science corners are dedicated spaces where the community can connect and contribute to real scientific research.

This event has been created in partnership with the National Landcare Network and Australian Citizen Science Association.

Free, bookings are essential via Eventbrite.
