$400,000 awarded to local sporting clubs to finance their dreams
On Monday 9 October, Wollongong City Council awarded a total of $400,000 to 8 projects pitched by local sporting clubs and associations, all which will help improve their facilities.
Council’s Sports Grants Program aims to provide direct financial assistance to sporting clubs and associations who use Council facilities. The grants will be used to fund small and medium sized projects that will directly improve the facilities.

Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM congratulated the eight sporting clubs who were successful for the grants.
“At Council, we are taking a strategic approach to improving our sporting facilities. This involves working closely with the people and clubs who have their boots on the ground and understand the day-to-day needs of these facilities and those who use them,” Cr Bradbery said.
“By working with local sporting clubs and associations we’re able to contribute grant funds towards positive and proactive ideas to improve Council-owned sporting facilities so that these spaces meet the changing needs of our community.
“It’s all part of our commitment to increase opportunities for community sport participation, increase capacity at our sportsgrounds, renew ageing infrastructure and focus on improving gender equity and accessibility.”
