We love sharing information about our environment and how we can protect it. Council has several environmental education programs that you can be part of.
You can also check out our Sustainable Living pages for tips on how you can help the environment.
School programs
Our Green Team work with schools to help local students learn about the environment. We can come to your school, or arrange class activities at the Botanic Garden Discovery Centre or Greenhouse Park.
Some of our school programs include poster competitions, composting workshops, tours of natural areas, waste education and no-dig gardening.
Students and teachers can also enter the POEM FOREST Nature Writing Prize that plants a tree for every poem. Find out more here.
We have plenty of resources to share, and are happy to answer your questions or tailor a program to suit your class’ needs.
Email or call us on (02) 4227 7111 to arrange an environmental activity for your school.
Community events
We often run environmental workshops and events to help residents learn more about topics like reducing waste, keeping chickens, cooking and exploring natural areas.
Upcoming workshops and environmental events are shown below.
You can also sign up for e-news to get updates about events and sustainable living.
Rise & Shine
Rise & Shine is an environmental clean-up program that encourages the community help improve our environment. Many local schools take part in this program, and it's a great way for students to take a hands-on approach to caring for their local area.
We also have an annual schools competition and awards program as part of Rise & Shine.
