Reduce your emissions
Households contribute around 30 per cent of Wollongong’s electricity and gas consumption, so we're supporting residents to take action at home and in local businesses, like our Net Zero Heroes have.
Switch to electric appliances and save $2000+ each year! Homes who also include solar and battery can more than double these savings.
These savings are based on an average 4-person household, calculated on combined savings from transitioning cooking, hot water, heating and cooling appliances to efficient electric alternatives, and transitioning transport to an electric vehicle.*
Our Net Zero Wollongong Climate Change Mitigation Plan 2023-30PDF, 1526.66 KB outlines a whole-of-community approach to reducing local greenhouse gas emissions.
We need everyone to do their bit, their way, and every bit counts. Find your way below.
Electrify your home
Electrification through renewable energy is an important step to reaching net zero. It means switching from natural gas appliances to efficient all-electric appliances, powered by renewable energy. As well as reducing emissions, you'll save money and improve your health.
Energy efficiency
Making small changes with energy-saving technologies and techniques around your home can help reduce energy usage and cut your electricity bill. For instance, a 7-star energy efficient home can save you $900 per year and help us reach net zero.
Transport
The most planet-friendly ways to get around are walking, cycling and public transport. Otherwise, electric vehicles, e-scooters and e-bikes are cheap to run, easy to maintain, reduce noise pollution, and, when charged with renewable energy, operate with zero emissions.
