Lake Illawarra Catchment
The Lake Illawarra Catchment area takes in suburbs in both the Wollongong and Shellharbour areas around Lake Illawarra.
The Southern Area Floodplain Committee provides advice to Council about issues in the wider Lake Illawarra Catchment area.
Lake Illawarra is managed by Wollongong and Shellharbour Councils in partnership with the NSW Government. You can read more about management of the lake on our Lake Illawarra Estuary Management Committee page.
A Flood Study, Floodplain Risk Management Study and Floodplain Risk Management Plan were completed in 2001. The studies were updated in 2012.
These studies were jointly funded by Wollongong City Council, Shellharbour City Council and the Lake Illawarra Authority.
You can read the updated Floodplain Risk Management Strategy in the Documents section of this page.
