From the Lord Mayor's Office
Keeping up to date with Council’s work
If you’re a fan of numbers, then the Quarterly Review Statement is the document for you!
The March statement was discussed at this week’s Council meeting and outlines the progress we are making towards the achievement of our Strategic Planning Documents with a particular focus on the Delivery Program 2022-2026 and Operational Plan 2024-2025. It includes our financial and operational performance, and the Budget Review Statement.
This report is our commitment to transparency around Council’s work and operations in action.
However, what I really value in the Quarterly Report is the reminder it delivers every three months of how many services we offer, the diversity of our facilities, and what we do each and every day.
For example, did you know that Council has…
- 493 parks
- 65 sports fields
- 220 playing fields
- 7 outdoor fitness stations
- 9 turf wickets
- and 154 playgrounds across Wollongong that we care for year-around?
Or that…
- 10,000 people joined in on our Australia Day celebrations
- 28,000 attended the Yours and Owls event on Flagstaff Hill, which was supported and assessed by Council staff
- There were 128 activities and events at the Seniors Festival. And I danced with 200 guests at the Lord Mayor’s Afternoon Tea Dance.
Or that, between January and March, our beach services team…
- performed 224 rescues
- assisted with 1,181 first aid incidents
- provided safety advice to 23,555 swimmers.
The Quarterly Report really does demonstrate the breadth of services Council provides and the varied infrastructure we manage of behalf of the community. The Quarterly Review sets out our achievements against our goals and priorities and highlights much for us to be proud of as a community.
It highlights all we do for the environment, the visitor economy, transport, community facilities, parks and sports fields, and in delivering transport infrastructure. Along with the day-to-day, it also talks to big ticket items like the fact that between January and March;
- Demolition works continued at the site of the future Southern Suburbs Community Centre & Library.
- Planning progressed for refurbishment works at Corrimal, Dapto and Thirroul District Centres.
- The Helensburgh Community Rooms reopened in January
- Roof upgrades at Unanderra Community Centre and Library were completed
- And that there were 13 cranes in the city skyline this quarter, up from 11 some 6 months ago.
Our community can be assured that this Council, backed by an incredible workforce, are working hard to deliver for our community across a multitude of areas and I am very proud of the list of achievements highlighted in this Quarterly Review.
