Wollongong, that was amazing!
Thank you to everyone who took part in the 2022 UCI Road World Championships; from the Union Cycliste Internationale, the organising committee Wollongong 2022, and the incredible cyclists who thrilled us, down to every person who watched and cheered. We'd also like to thank everyone for working around the disruptions to our roads and parking.
So many people and organisations contributed to our city’s biggest and most successful event ever. And it was an honour to share our city with the world.
The energy and excitement of the Championships was unlike anything Wollongong has experienced before, and it truly was the Ride of Our Lives!
The races may be done, but the legacy and long-term benefits of this incredible event will continue.
About the UCI Road World Championships
First held in 1921, the Championships span eight days and multiple events, including the team time trial mixed relay, individual time trial and road race events. The Championships include a range of men’s and women’s races, across age groups from junior to elite. There are also some great community participation events!
The 2022 UCI Road World Championships were held in Wollongong, NSW from from 18 – 25 September.
The Championships are part of the NSW Government’s 10 World Cups in 10 years initiative, along with the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, and the 2027 Men’s Rugby World Cup.
During the event, we welcomed 935 riders, an estimated 200,000 spectators, and showcased Wollongong to a global audience of more than 200 million people.
Our community also celebrated with Spin Fest, an exciting program of art, culture and fun activities for all ages.
