Homelessness

Wollongong City Council is committed to helping people experiencing homelessness.

We work with outreach providers to support those in our community that need help. People experiencing homelessness have the right to use public spaces, and to be respected and treated with dignity.

If you’re homeless or at risk of homelessness, you can get help and advice through the Wollongong Homeless Hub .

There is no stereotypical homeless person. Homelessness can affect men, women, children, and families from a wide range of backgrounds.

There are different challenges that may lead to homelessness including mental health issues, alcohol or drug dependency and relationship instability including domestic violence. More recently, the shortage of social and affordable housing and the high cost of living is leading to more people becoming homeless.

If you see someone sleeping rough or are in need of assistance, you can email the NSW Government Outreach Team. You can also call Council on (02) 4227 111 or via email.

If you are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, you can seek help and advice through the Wollongong Homeless Hub & Housing Services.

Housing needs in our community are changing. We recognise this change, and in response, we're considering how we can address current housing issues and ease housing stress.
