Bushcare volunteers regenerate and care for natural areas on community land.
Locations they work at include creeks and wetlands, rainforests, the escarpment, coastal dunes and headlands.
Our Bushcare volunteers:
- Plant native trees, shrubs and grasses provided by Council. This helps to stabilise soil, improve water quality and create habitats for native animals
- Remove weeds and other plants that are harmful to our natural areas
- Clear rubbish
- Work alongside Council staff and other bush regenerators.
Bushcare volunteers are given training and support to build their skills in subjects like plant identification, weed control, conservation and animal habitats. They can also network with other Bushcare volunteers and take part in walks and social events.
We have more than 60 Bushcare groups across Wollongong.
To join a Bushcare group or start a new group, email or call us on (02) 4227 7111.
