Our Community Recycling Service (CRS) lets you drop off smoke alarms and x-rays at selected library locations, so they can be safely recycled.
Recycling these items keeps them out of landfill and means valuable materials can be recovered and reused.
How to use our Community Recycling Service
Visit one of the locations below and hand your smoke alarms and / or x-rays to a staff member over the counter for recycling.
You can drop off items for recycling any time during library opening hours.
Changes to this service
Until recently, we had Community Recycling Station boxes at these locations for you to drop off several common household recyclables. These boxes have now been removed, but you can still recycle by handing items to staff over the counter.
The items that can be recycled through this service are also changing as shown below.
Dates | What can be recycled |
---|---|
Until 2 November 2025 | Smoke alarms X-rays Household batteries Mobile phones |
From 3 November 2025 | Smoke alarms X-rays |
Where to take batteries and mobile phones
Batteries should never go in any of your household bins as they are dangerous and can start fires. Keeping these items out of landfill helps protect the environment and recover valuable resources.
