Tiny Forests Thriving with FOGO

FOGO is helping to put forests in tiny areas with big impact
Stage/s | S1, S2, S3, S4 | |
Subject | Science and Technology, Geography
Location | We come to your school
Cost | Free | |
Duration | 45 minutes per session (we can offer 3 sessions per day) |
FOGO is our communities’ way of creating compost with our food and garden waste. This compost is then used in the creation of Tiny Forests or to top dress sports fields. Together as a community we are helping to mitigate climate change by creating forests that take away carbon, and by turning food waste away from landfill we are reducing greenhouse gasses.
Please note
This can be run in conjunction with the planting and / or maintaining of a tiny forest, or can be run as a stand-alone activity.
Students will:
- Play a game to help understand the role of compost with plants
- Watch a short presentation on FOGO
- Carry out experiments and hypothesize about plant responses to soils with and without FOGO added and the impact on the environment
- Participate in a waste audit of their lunch boxes and ask questions about waste management
