Reading really is magical with this Book Week competition
Wollongong City Libraries is inviting primary school students in years K-6 to celebrate their love of reading by taking part in the 2024 Children’s Book Week® Art Competition.
This year’s Children’s Book Week® theme is Reading is Magic. Students have from now until 5pm, Friday 2 August to create their original artwork and submit it to their local library.
To enter, simply visit your local library and pick up an entry template. Draw an artwork on the back and once completed, hand it in to your local library for a chance to win a Children's Book Week® prize pack valued up to $100.
“We feel that this year’s Book Week theme gives students a lot to work with. My suggestion for those looking for inspiration is to explore the library collection and see what magical books are available,” Wollongong City Council Manager Libraries + Community Facilities, Sarah Taylor said.
“We’re offering 14 prizes in total. That’s first place and runner up per library location. Library staff will be judging the competition and hunting for creative artworks that imagine the Book Week theme in new ways.”
All entries received will be put on display at your local library during Children’s Book Week®, which takes place from Saturday 17 August to Friday 23 August 2024.
“So, no matter if you win or not, you’ll be able to see your artwork displayed at your library. It’s a great excuse to visit and show your creativity and love of reading to friends and family,” Ms Taylor said.
You don’t have to be a library member to enter the competition. But if you are, you can borrow one of these magically inspiring books from the library collection. Visit the Wollongong City Libraries website to become a library member today.
Children’s Book Week® is an initiative of the Children’s Book Council of Australia, celebrating Australian children’s books for over 75 years.
