From the Lord Mayor's Office
Business Expo a big success
Were you one of the many people who came along to Wollongong Town Hall today for the second Illawarra Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Business Expo?
The Expo was a fantastic event and provided the opportunity for a wide variety of local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses the chance to highlight the diverse goods and services they offer. It was fascinating to see such a strong representation from so many enterprising local small businesses who are doing exciting things in the worlds of construction, education and culture, food and hospitality and gifts – to name just a few of the types of stalls within the Town Hall.
Following a terrific procurement networking event on Wednesday evening, I’m proud that Council, partnered with the Illawarra Indigenous Business Network, Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation, Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development and BlueScope to deliver these events as part of Indigenous Business Month.
We, like many organisations, are firmly committed to a Reconciliation Action Plan and this Expo provides a valuable opportunity to establish partnerships within the Aboriginal business community and the many services and products it can offer.
