Getting closer to game day in West Dapto
We all know that West Dapto is one of the state’s fastest-growing greenfield sites with more and more people moving into the area all the time.
But while many of the conversations around this space focus on the importance of infrastructure improvements to support this growing population, Council is also keenly considering other elements that contribute to quality of life.
That’s why we’re so grateful for the support from both the Federal and NSW State Governments for funding to go towards new sporting facilities for West Dapto.
We’re a way of them being opened, yet. But the $9M from the Australian Government through its Priority Community Infrastructure Program and $5M from the NSW government through the State Voluntary Planning Agreement Funding Program, will certainly get us there, sooner.
Right now, behind-the-scenes we’re working on the design phase of this new sporting facility. We’re considering the engineering required to build in this area, while also managing the risk of a 1 in 100-year flood.
We’re looking to maximise the sporting opportunities and diversity of use of this complex in its design.
We want to be flexible in its use and some of the sporting codes that may potentially have a home here include AFL, cricket and soccer.
I’m so excited to take this first step forward in the first new sporting precinct for West Dapto that’ll feature multiple sports fields, a neighbourhood-level community centre, contemporary sports amenities, sports flood lighting and car parking.
While the finish date isn’t confirmed yet, it’s a huge milestone for our sports-loving community and a project that’ll be a keen focus of mine over the next few years.
