Supporting grassroots organisations to boost our cultural connections
Have you heard the news? Culture Mix is back for 2025!
I’m delighted that this hugely successful celebration of our city’s cultural diversity will be making a return following a funding grant from the NSW Government.
Delivering events like this takes money and the NSW Government’s has recognised the importance of Culture Mix by providing funding through its Stronger Together Local Council Major Festival program.
Soon, Council will be asking our community for those who’d like to be involved in the delivery of this event. We’ll have Community Development Grants where we provide funding support and opportunities for local creatives to develop exciting contemporary, cross-cultural works that can be part of the event program.
This grants program is just one of a number of opportunities facilitated by Council to support our hard-working and passionate individuals and non-profit community groups who work in the local cultural and creative industry.
These grant programs include:
- Small Cultural Grants
- Bands and Choirs
- Community Events
- Heritage Grants
- NAIDOC Week Grants
- Connecting Neighbours Grants
Fostering a connected and engaged community is at the heart of what we do at Council and that can include finding ways to facilitate and support others.
Culture and creativity is a subject that’s very close to my heart.
I’m a passionate advocate for the creative arts, and I understand the challenges that creatives can face when trying to get a project off the ground, to keep something moving forward, or take that all-important next step.
I also understand just how important our creative arts are to creating a vibrant city like Wollongong. Theatre, music, visual arts and dance – to name just four pursuits – are all essential when it comes to creating a cultured and creative environment.
So, if you’ve you have a project or initiative or group that would potentially benefit from one of Council’s grants programs, I encourage you to visit Council’s website now.
