From the Lord Mayor's Office
Wollongong’s Councillors take the Oath/Affirmation of Office
On Monday night, in front of a public gallery packed with family and friends, I and my 12 Councillor colleagues took the Oath/Affirmation of Office at an Extraordinary Meeting of Council.
It was a special moment for all of us, as it formally marks the start of our four-year term as Councillors following the 14 September election.
To be able to share this with our family and friends was particularly special as they’ve supported us to reach this point, and we’ll certainly need their ongoing understanding and backing as we get down to the business of working on behalf of our community.
This is my third term as a Councillor and one of the things I’m particularly proud of from my previous term was the collaborative way we worked together. I know I’m not alone in my desire to see that collegiate approach continue with this group of Councillors, and I look forward to working with all my colleagues as we strive to do the best for our community in all the decisions we make.
At the meeting, Councillor Linda Campbell was elected as Deputy Lord Mayor of Wollongong. I congratulate her on this appointment into the role for a term of 12 months.
If you’re interested, the next ordinary meeting of Wollongong City Council will be held on Monday 28 October from 6pm. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting and sit in the public gallery, or you can watch remotely through the meeting’s live webcast.
