Learning City

We want to be a UNESCO learning city

Learning for life and throughout life is good for ourselves and our community. Our vision is for Wollongong to be a city where everyone has the opportunity to learn, be creative and be connected. That's why, in 2025 we are aiming to become a learning city, and part of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities.

We want to encourage everyone in our diverse community to become a lifelong learner. Council, and other organisations in our community, are keen to play a role in creating opportunities for you to learn, experiment and achieve your life goals.

What is lifelong learning?

Lifelong learning is the idea that we all continue to learn throughout our lives. We all learn in different ways and for different reasons. Some people learn for employment, while others learn to keep their brain active during retirement.

Lifelong learning can happen at school, TAFE or university. It can also happen at home, with friends and family. You can also learn at the library, in an art gallery, outside in nature or with a sporting group - anywhere we are able to learn something new.

Watch the video below to find out what lifelong learning means to our friends at Beyond Empathy.
