A Pool Certificate of Compliance

For shared pools that are part of strata complexes or community schemes, the owners corporation (or body corporate) has to make sure pools are compliant. Talk to your strata manager, real estate agent or conveyancer for details.

How do I get a certificate?

Pool certificates can be issued by Council or an accredited certifier. Before you apply, make sure your pool is registered and have your registration number handy.

Apply online

Before you can apply, you need to log in or register in our Online Services system.

Once you are logged in, select Lodge an Application, then Certificates and Certificate of Compliance – Section 22D – Swimming Pools Act 1992.

Alternatively, you can use our Certificate Application form PDF, 272.5 KB and tick '22D - Certificate of Compliance – Section 22D Swimming Pools Act 1992' in Section 1 of the form.

What happens after I apply?

Council's Swimming Pool Safety Officer will contact you to organise a time for inspection.

After the inspection, Council will issue a certificate of compliance or a certificate of non-compliance, depending on the condition of your swimming pool safety barriers.  An inspection report and the certificate will be sent to your email address.

See our Pool Inspections page for information about this process.

How long does a certificate last?

Certificates of compliance (if your pool passes inspection) are valid for three years. However, if your pool is inspected during that time and doesn’t meet requirements, the certificate can be revoked.

Certificates of non-compliance (if your pool fails inspection) are valid for one year. You must fix any issues and your pool must pass inspection within that one-year period.
