Grass and Mowing

Many homes have grass or lawn that residents will need to look after.

Council does not usually mow private land, or footpaths or road reserves next to private property. Residents are expected to look after these areas.

When can I mow?

Lawn mowers can be noisy, so it's handy to know what times you're allowed to make noise when mowing or trimming your grass.

Under residential noise restrictions, you can only make noise with garden equipment and power tools during the following hours:

  • 8am – 8pm Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
  • 7am – 8pm any other day.

If someone is making noise mowing outside these hours, you can report it to Council.

Overgrown land

If someone's land is overgrown and it's causing a problem for your property, you may be able to report it to Council.  Please note, that just because land is untidy doesn't automatically mean it will be considered overgrown.

Visit our Trees, Grass and Plants page to learn more or make a report.
