Flying-Foxes

Grey-headed flying-foxes are a type of nomadic native bat found across several parts of the Wollongong area.

Grey-headed flying-foxes are a vulnerable native mammal. They are protected by both state and federal legislation, and disturbing them or their habitats may be an offence under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016

Flying-fox camps

Flying-foxes live in 'camps', and there are multiple established camps in our area.

These camps can be noisy and smelly, especially during autumn when eucalyptus trees bloom and the flying-foxes gather to mate. Numbers usually decrease during winter as these nomadic bats move to search for food.
