Blitz is our one-day clean up and maintenance program for town and village centres.
This program runs in addition to the existing schedules of our works, parks and maintenance crews.
It's about getting all hands-on-deck for an intensive one-day revamp. Blitz is another way Council is working to keep our city looking good.
What's included in a Blitz day?
Depending on what's needed in each location, a Blitz may include:
Deep cleaning to brighten and refresh public spaces
Landscaping and urban greening to care for and improve plants
Repairs and maintenance to fix any problems and make things safer
Anything else that needs attention Blitz is flexible - if we see something else, we'll aim to deal with it on the day.
Read below for examples of some of the things we may do as part of a Blitz.
- High pressure washing of footpaths
- Removing graffiti from Council property

Working with local businesses
Before each Blitz, we'll visit businesses in the area to:
- Tell them about the upcoming works
- Ask what they think is a priority to work on
- Listen to their challenges and opportunities
- Hear their ideas to improve the look and feel of the centre.
This helps us make sure each Blitz focuses on what the community needs most.

How your business can get involved
Blitz focuses on Council-owned and managed spaces. There is no obligation for business owners to do anything. However, if you want to get involved, a Blitz day can be a great opportunity to refresh your business and help improve your neighbourhood.
Ideas include:
- Repainting or cleaning the front of your building
- Updating signage
- Refreshing your window displays
- Removing old posters or graffiti (we can share advice about how to remove these from your private property)
- Adding fresh flowers or plants in planters.
Even small actions can help to make the area around your business more appealing to customers and the community.
If you'd like to get involved or share your ideas, email us at blitz@wollongong.nsw.gov.au
A rolling program
Throughout the year, we'll schedule Blitz days for town centres and villages across our city to make sure all areas can benefit from this program.
We'll also share updates as we complete Blitz days, so check back to see highlights as we work to make a difference across Wollongong.
