Other Roadworks

Sometimes additional works are needed to repair different parts of our roads. These works are often done as we prepare for asphalt, stabilisation, or lean mix concrete roadworks.

If these types of works are to be done on your street, a notification letter will be placed in your mailbox one week before work starts. The letter will include dates and more information on what to expect.

Some of these works are described below.

Kerb and gutter repairs

This involves the removal and replacement of the old kerb and gutter due to excessive damage and / or water flow issues. Depending on how much needs to be replaced, this can take a couple of weeks to complete.

During kerb and gutter repairs, we will usually:

  1. Dig up and remove existing damaged kerb and gutter
  2. Place formwork for new kerb and gutter
  3. Place new concrete and allow it to cure
  4. Remove formwork and backfill the road ready for other scheduled works.

Subsoil drainage

Subsoil drainage involves the installation of drainage pipes under the road pavement, alongside the kerb and gutter.

This is used when there's excessive water under the road pavement. If left untreated, it can cause significant damage to the road and cause delays during the road reconstruction process.

Depending on the length of subsoil drainage needed, this can take a couple of weeks to complete.

For subsoil drainage work, we will:

  1. Dig up and remove a strip of material alongside the kerb and gutter
  2. Place drainage pipe
  3. Backfill with drainate material and seal it to the road surface.

During kerb and gutter work, or subsoil drainage work, residents may not be able to access their driveways. We appreciate that this may be inconvenient, and we try to finish the works as quickly as possible. In some cases, we may be able to use steel plates to provide temporary access.

Bad weather

When it rains, we can’t complete our roadworks. Sometimes we need to delay our program because of weather, but we will always reschedule works for another date.

Traffic control, detours and delays

All roadwork is done with the support of traffic control. This may be ‘stop/slow’ arrangements or detours and road closures.

Please pay attention to signs and follow instructions. Depending on the type of work being completed we may or may not be able to allow vehicle access to properties.

Our traffic control will always allow access for emergency services, so please don't worry about this.

If your street is on a bus route, we work with the bus company to minimise delays.

We'll also work to allow access for your kerbside bins to be collected.
