Friday fast five – celebrate the last days of autumn with these great events
Looking for something to do this month that won’t break the bank? Look no further!
Whether you’re looking for a fun day out for the family, want to give your dancing shoes a workout, or love any excuse to visit the Wollongong Botanic Garden, we have for you.
Here’s a selection of five upcoming events that we think will be a whole lot of fun. You can also check out Council’s many other events by looking at the Events Calendar on our website.
1. Comic Gong presents: Family Fun Day and Cosplay Ball
WHEN: Saturday 13 May, 10am-1pm
WHERE: Corrimal Library, 15 Short Street
COST: Free!
This Family Cosplay Day will feature craft, face painting, live entertainment and (of course) cosplay competitions! Family Cosplay Day is suitable for children and families.

2. Wollongong Volunteering Expo
WHEN: Wednesday 17 May, 9.30am-2pm
WHERE: Wollongong Town Hall, corner of Crown and Kembla Streets
COST: Free!
Volunteering your time is one of the most fulfilling things you can do. Come and chat with a wide range of not-for-profit organisations providing services in our community, meet other volunteers, and learn more about how you can get involved.
3. Comic Gong presents: Cosplay Ball
WHEN: Friday 19 May, 7-10pm
WHERE: Wollongong Town Hall, corner of Crown and Kembla Streets
COST: $35. Available for purchase at the Wollongong Town Hall.
This is one for people aged 18 years and older who are keen to dust off their cosplay attire and step into a world of fantasy and fun. Unleash your creativity at the ultimate night out for cosplay enthusiasts at our first ever Comic Gong Cosplay Ball! Compete in both individual and group contests for the chance to win some great prizes.
4. National Simultaneous Storytime
WHEN: Wednesday 24 May, 11am-12noon
WHERE: Head to Corrimal, Dapto, Helensburgh, Thirroul, Warrawong, or Wollongong Library.
COST: Free!
National Simultaneous Storytime is all about fostering a love of reading from an early age. This year the national event is held on Wednesday 24 May at 11am and invites everyone across the country to read the Australian picture book, The Speedy Sloth by author Rebecca Young and Illustrator Heath McKenzie.
This event is for children aged 3-6 and their parents/caregivers.
5. Botanic Gardens Day
WHEN: Sunday 28 May, 10am
WHERE: Wollongong Botanic Garden, 40 Murphy Avenue, Keiraville
COST: Free!
Celebrate with Wollongong Botanic Garden as they shed light on the role of plants and the important work botanic gardens undertake every day to conserve them for future generations.
This year we will be running a number of behind-the-scene tours, workshops and guided tours of the Garden. We'll also have a botanic art exhibition and Native Plant Sale at our Towri Centre.
